While men may give time to establishing haircare and skincare rituals, they don’t always do the same for their beard. It’s not for a lack of love, we know ~ it can be difficult to know where to start. Nourish and care for your facial hair with our tried and tested tips.

YOUR NEW BEARD GROOMING RITUAL

Step 1 ~ Cleanse

A hydrating face wash keeps both your beard and the skin beneath cleansed. If you’re worried about using a facial cleanser on your beard, don’t be ~ simply make sure the cleansers you’re using are safe for facial hair as well as skin. Ingredients that replenish both include:

  • Argan Oil ~ deeply moisturising, promotes hair growth and prevents acne
  • Coconut Oil ~ eliminates bacteria
  • Shea Butter ~ soothes irritated and itchy skin
  • Sunflower Oil ~ prevents beard hair loss and breakage

For beard health, we love le savon lune ~ our soap-free cleansing bar that helps restore the natural balance of your skin. Our unique formulation is enhanced by Bentonite, a Colloidal Clay composed of aged volcanic ash that has been used for centuries for its healing properties. Working in tandem with Silver Hydrosol, impurities are drawn out in a deep yet gentle cleanse, without dehydrating or irritating your skin.

Application

Hold le savon lune momentarily under running water and then use your hands to create a mild lather that can be applied in circular motions to your face, neck and beard. This deep clean action will hydrate your skin, tighten your pores, and help your beard to look and feel fresher. Splash or rinse with warm running water and then pat dry.

Step 2 ~ Moisturise

Healthy skin and facial hair is optimised by high levels of moisture. As well as hydrating, moisturising morning and night helps regulate the oil production of your skin follicles. That’s because if your skin and hair is dry, your body tries to make up for it by producing more oil, which can lead to clogged pores and greasy beards.

La potion infinie is our hero moisturiser and all-encompassing treatment for skin and beards, delivering optimum hydration. The cream contains Silver Hydrosol, which regulates skin flora with its natural antibacterial and anti-irritant properties, and DNA HP ~ a natural, marine-sourced ingredient that’s ten times more hydrating than Hyaluronic Acid. With a formulation based upon the work of Nobel Prize-winning scientists, la potion infinie delivers a new and truly unique experience for a visibly healthier complexion.

Application: Use once or twice a day on your face, neck, and around the eyes to restore and hydrate skin. Once applied, use what's left on your hands to moisturise your facial hair.

Step 3 ~ Nourish

To complete your daily ritual, nourish your skin, moustache, and beard with an oil. Oils help to maintain the strength and health of your facial hair, keep the skin beneath it supple, and soothe itchiness.

L’étoile infinie is our balanced blend of natural and organic face oils. It uses organic Argan Oil as a powerfully moisturising base, and is enriched with Vitamin E, Abyssinian Oil, and Kukui Nut Oil ~ working in beautiful synergy to protect your skin’s elasticity and balance natural oil production. It also contains triterpenoids – natural compounds with antioxidant properties that help to prevent moisture loss.

Application: After cleansing, warm a drop or two of l’étoile infinie in the palms of your hands and through your fingers. Brush both sides of your beard with your hands, and use your fingertips to lightly coat the hairs on your moustache.

Repeat this process every day for supple, radiant skin and fabulous facial hair.

GOOD PRACTICES FOR A HEALTHY BEARD

1. Exfoliate weekly

If you keep your beard trim, stay on top of ingrown hairs and exfoliate once a week. Find a non-abrasive exfoliator that works for your skin type. For longer beards, tend to the skin beneath using a dry brush. Your skin will love you for it, and removing dead skin cells will encourage more hair growth!

2. Shave with the grain

Shaving against the natural direction of your beard may lead to ingrown hairs, itchiness, and irritation. While a face oil can soothe this, you can prevent it by simply shaving in the direction of your hair growth.

3. Wash in lukewarm water

Washing in water that’s too hot can disturb the harmony of your skin, hair, and beard. Facial hair in particular prefers that which is not too hot, not too cold. Use lukewarm water in your beard-grooming ritual so as not to strip your skin or over-tighten pores.

4. Be gentle ~ pat, don't rub

After washing your beard, pat it gently with a towel to dry. Rubbing can irritate and inflame.
