What is DNA HP?
DNA HP (Hyper-Polymerised Deoxyribonucleic Acid) is a deeply hydrating acid sourced from sustainably-caught Alaskan salmon sperm - the same ingredient used in the popular salmon sperm facials. It’s one of the most effective active ingredients for hydration and cell repair in modern skincare.
DNA HP delivers water deep into the spaces between cells - where it’s most needed. It also helps prevent the breakdown of collagen, elastin and lipids in the skin, which contributes to its powerful anti-ageing and regenerating effects.
You may also see DNA HP referred to as Sodium DNA or HP DNA, but they’re all the same active ingredient.

Start with a gentle cleanser.
Clear away impurities with a cleanser that supports the skin barrier and allows DNA HP to absorb effectively.
Apply as a serum or moisturiser.
DNA HP is incredibly effective in leave-on formulas, such as serums and creams, so it can work all day. Try using it at night too, when your skin enters repair mode.
Seal with a nourishing oil.
Follow with a protective face oil to lock in hydration and support the skin barrier.
Finish with SPF.
Together, antioxidant DNA HP and SPF protect skin from environmental damage like UV-triggered oxidation.

How does DNA HP work on the skin?
DNA HP is uniquely powerful in its ability to hydrate and protect the skin.
It can carry 10,000 times its weight in water into the deepest layers of the skin – the space between skin cells – so skin stays plump and hydrated from within.
It also neutralises free radicals and protects against lipid peroxidation (the breakdown of skin lipids), one of the key causes of inflammation, loss of elasticity, and visible ageing. By supporting both hydration and repair, DNA HP helps skin stay resilient, youthful, and more even in tone and texture.

How to layer DNA HP ~ which ingredients to use and which to avoid
Layering DNA HP properly can amplify its skin-repairing and hydrating effects. Below are the ingredients it works well with, and a few that may require more care.
Pairs well with:
Silver Hydrosol
This soothing antibacterial works well with DNA HP, helping to deliver hydration and calm inflammation.
Ceramides
Strengthen the skin barrier, complementing the deep regenerative work of DNA HP.
Peptides
Help rebuild and strengthen the skin alongside the regenerative properties of DNA HP.
Use with caution:
High-strength AHAs/BHAs
These acids exfoliate the skin and can temporarily disrupt the barrier, reducing the hydrating effect of DNA HP or causing mild sensitivity.
Benzoyl Peroxide
Can oxidise actives and cause dryness when used with hydrating polymers like DNA HP.
Alcohol-heavy formulas
May counteract the hydrating benefits of DNA HP by stripping the skin.
Strong Vitamin C
The low pH of strong Vitamin C formulations may not be compatible with DNA HP and could lead to irritation.
